I've had this game since I got my PS2 when I was 8. The game was already several years old. Side note: this has a pretty good soundtrack. Jimi Hendrix, Mötley Crüe, and Judas Priest make an appearance.

I remember christmas morning opening my PS2 and it came with this and ATV offroad.....Jesus that was forever ago.....
That game was fun as all hell.
I can remember starting off with the Miata all the time since I didn't have a memory card....

Kickstart My Heart and She Sells Sanctuary are always the best two tracks to get, in my opinion.

I hated it when I was 8 because it was too hard (bought a new beetle and was screwed). I think I am going to start off with a miata this time. I have ATV too! Such a good game, I still play it time to time.

I love playing ATV and hitting the invisible walls....
The later ones are better since you can use stadium trucks and what not.... haah
But start with Miata, and do it right...Since you are (nearly?) an adult and can make good decisions. haha
By the way, I saw a pair of trans ams and thought of you, sadly no pic, one was a Turbo one was SC model, white with blue lettering and birding(?)

Same guy owned both of them.

Reminds me, I really need to pick up a new copy after my son lost both my copy of GT3 and GT4 (and erased my save data for GT4)... I need to show proof of my 100% complete status in GT3 (all gold licenses, all races, all Time trials - even that goddamned Complex String run... all with a standard controller). (I should still have the save for the Complex String run).

Yup! that's my favorite of the series! I got my old PS2 out recently and booted it up. Still plays fantastically. I even found a replay of an old drift video I made from 2003!

I still have my memory card and game sitting somewhere, all I have left is the Formula 1 Championship at the end, and IIRC I'm stuck on winning Laguna Seca in that. One of these days I'll finish it.
Also, get an Evo 7 to start with. It has the second most miles on it of any car in my game, it gets used a lot.

As I have said before, I suck when it comes to T/A's and what not, I know what I've owned, and I can tell you useless facts about them, but when it comes to a car I have little to no interest in, I am useless as tits on a bull.

I'm so jealous. I haven't had a PS2 in years but wish I did so I could play the 3 best GT games. Somehow still had gt1 and 4 until about a year ago when I traded them towards gt5. Not worth it. What happened to you gran Turismo? You used to be so amazing.

Memories.
My car in that game was "Sunfire," my Sunburst Yellow RX-7 Bathurst. He built the family fortune.
I too started with a Miata in GT3 (A-spec) and it was the first Gran Turismo I played with a wheel.
Full disclosure, I'm old and I still love GT6.

Endurance race victories could yield F1 cars. If you have a suzuki escudo, there was a way to map the throttle to a joystick direction and you'd use a rubber band to force the dual shock sticks to both turn you and make you go forward. Even while riding the wall, you'd win every time on the oval endurance. That had an F1 car as a possible prize.

Thanks for bringing back so many memories. I still remember the first car I bought on that game- a Fiat Coupe, bright red.
This also reminds that I need to make a replica of my first car on GT4 on Forza- it was a grey 1985 RX-7 with Torque Thrust wheels. That thing was awesome- I remember calculating once that I won 25x more prize money in that car than I had invested in it.
